My friend Stephanie came over to show me a travel tissue holder she was given by a friend of hers. Stephanie's friend went to a wedding in Hawaii and on each person's chair at the ceremony, a travel tissue holder was placed. I took it apart right away to figure it out. I also looked on the web and several paper craft forums and was unable to find instructions for it. If anyone out there has seen this holder before, let me know...I'd love to know where it came from.
After taking it apart and some tweaking, I managed to come up with a tutorial to share with you. The great thing about it is that it's made out of one sheet of 8-1/2" x 11" and it can be made out of card stock for a thicker holder or designer paper for a thinner holder.
I made a couple of versions of it to show you how fun these can be to make for yourself or gifts. The first one shown here, is made out of card stock and the second one out of designer paper.
I put this one together yesterday using this week's Great Swaps Girls Color Challenge - Certainly Celery, Regal Rose, and So Saffron and here it is Cherish Travel Tissue Holder.
I started with a sheet of 8-1/2" x 11" and scored as indicated on the instructions listed below. On top of the front fold section, I adhered a strip So Saffron Prints Designer Series Paper, stamped Cherish from the Warm Words stamp set, and added some 1/8" Certainly Celery circles. Under the front fold section, I added a strip of Regal Rose ruffle ribbon from Fairy Tale Ribbon Originals. I folded as indicated on the instructions below. I stamped the bird from the Always stamp set on Whisper White with So Saffron classic ink and cut it out. I then layered that on top of Certainly Celery and cut it out. And finally I adhered the bird onto Basic Black to pop the colors a bit. I used the halfback pearl for the birds eye and adhered it to the front of the holder.
Instructions for assembling Travel Tissue Holder:
Step 1: Position your card stock on the paper trimer with 11" side against the top of the paper cutter and using the scoring blade, score at 2-3/4" and 7-3/4". Turn paper so that the 8-1/2" side is against the top of the paper cutter and using your scoring blade score at 2-1/2", 5-1/4" and 7-1/4".
Step 2: Stamp or add designer paper as you wish.
Step 3: Assembling Holder (click on the image to view it larger)
Fold on the 11" side score lines first, making sure the smaller section is on top. You will be left with two score lines on each side which you will fold back.
Turn holder around and insert each section into the other. What you'll end up with is a holder that doesn't need any glue or tape!
Finish decorating and add Tissue.
Here's one more sample. This one was the first one I put together and so excited how quickly it came together since I used double-sided paper.
I used a sheet of Ginger Blossom Designer Series Paper, scored, and folded as indicate on the instructions above. I then threaded a strip of River Rock Double Stitched Ribbon through a buckle from the Pewter Hodgepodge Hardware and adhered it around the tissue holder. The flower is from the Pretties kit. I sponged Groovy Guava on it, added a halfback pearl and adhered it to the card front.
So do you like it and think it's something you'd like to try?
Thanks for stopping by!

Will be back for this when I get done with my AB round robin. My mother is a kleenex junkie -- I think it'd be fun to surprise her with about 15 of these, one for her purse, one for her tote bag, one for her car, one for her desk at work, one for her 'spot' at her diningroom table, one for beside her reading recliner (ha!) ...

Great job with your tissue holders! Martha Stewart has instructions on her website. I made a lot of these little things for my wedding two years ago-before I knew about a Scor Pal or MonoMulti..lol.

Great job I haven't seen one like this before, I love it. I came up with one a few weeks ago and posted it on my blog, in the post there is a link to the tutorial I wrote for it. Here is the link to one of them I made.

this is just too neat! A bunch of people I know carry those little tissues around with them and this is so much prettier than the ugly plastic pkg. it comes in! I'll definitely be trying your diy instructions, thanks for figuring it out!-- I was just giggling thinking about your friend bringing over a cute wedding favor she got and you dismantling it to see how it was made, LOL! I totally get it, but some people actually think that's strange, hehe! I love your altered Thursday and this one is as great as the rest! Off to play! Thanks, Carolina, great share!
