Happy Friday! Can you say I'm a little late for Altered Item Thursday - um, yeah, you can. All I can say is that this little thing called "life" got in the way of me posting. Sorry about that, but I think I can make up for it with this fun project - an altered tin hidden away in a paper pumpkin and that's how I got to Paper Pumpkin Treat Holder.
A couple of Stampin' Up! conventions ago one of the presenters demonstrated these adorable looking pumpkin lanterns and since then I thought they would make adorable treat holders. Hope you think so too and so here's what I came up with.
- 12 strips of Designer Paper measuring 1" x 6"Old Olive 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon
- Pumpkin Sizzlits Die (measures approx. 2-1/4"x 2-1/2")
- Swirly Sizzlits Decorative Strip Die (measures approx. 2-1/4 x 12")
- 1/4" Green Ribbon
- Tin
- M&M's
This is what the project looks like completed and following are step-by-step instructions.
Here's a photo of just the pumpkin and how I put it together.
1. Gather your 12 strips together and with the Crop-a-Dile punch a hole on each end of the strips.
2. Determine which side you want to be on the outside and thread a piece of ribbon through the front, tie a knot, and continue threading it through the other end. Make a "U" shape by pulling on the ribbon and stop pulling once you decide on the size of the pumpkin you want. I wanted mine to fit the container so I used that as my guide. Once I determined that I tied a knot on that end too.
3. Next start separating the strips apart until you have a full pumpkin, as pictured above.
4. Take the Swirly die cut and with some liquid glue adhere one side to the top of the pumpkin. Cut at what ever size you'd like and continue to do the same until your satisfied with it. Make sure to save a little piece for your smaller pumpkin that goes on the container.
5. Set it aside to work on your container.
***If you don't have the Swirly Die an alternative is ribbon or curling some paper yourself by wrapping strips of card stock around a pencil.
Here's a photo of the pumpkin with the container inside.
And a photo of just the container with step by step instructions.
1. Around the bottom half of your container add a strip of the same designer paper you used for your pumpkin.
2. Around the lid add a strip of ribbon.
3. Stamp a sentiment on the die cut pumpkin. Here I used the sentiment form Eat, Drink, and Be Scary set which will be available October 1 in the Stampin' UP! Mini Catalog. Adhere the left over swirl to the pumpkin and it to the lid.
4. Fill your container with M&M's or candy of your choice, tuck it into the pumpkin and adjust the strips of the pumpkin to hide the container.
5. Your done! It's ready for you to give away.
