Happy Altered Item Thursday! I'm so excited to finally be able to put this project together for Gaven. I think this year he final gets "Santa". This year he's been talking about it more and so I thought for his third Christmas I would make him a special plate to put out for Santa.
I'm glad I took photos of it because after he saw it today, there's no way I could have him part with it. I was originally going to go to Petroglyph, which is a ceramic decorating place, but have too much to do right now and not enough time. So while I was at my local craft store I found a kit! Yes - I was so excited to see a plate decorating kit. It's called, Precious Plate (Perma-Coat Porcelain Kit) and it comes with a 9" Perma-Coat Porcelain Plate and six speciality formulated Perma-Coat Markers. I decided to go with a fun, kid-like look and glad to say he loved it!
Here's what the plate looks like before I decorated it.
Here's what it looks like done.
I used Melanie's
Have a Cookie set she designed for Gina K. Designs. I was a little stumped as to how I was going to get the images onto the plate and not have it smudge or come off easily. So I stamped the images with Momento Tuxedo Black Ink, traced it with the pens that are included in the kit and after they dried a bit I wiped of the ink with a tissue. It worked!!! So excited and this is how I went about it.
From the set, I used the tree image, cookie heart image and chocolate chip cookie image. For the heart image I colored it in with the red marker and outlined with the blue. For the trees I colored them in with the green marker and added dots with the red and blue markers. The chocolate chip cookie images I actually stamped on a scrap of Gina K. Designs Pure Luxury White card stock, colored them in with Copics, cut them out and added some Crystal Effects.
I wrote out the words "Cookies for Santa" with the black marker and outlined them with the blue marker. I substituted the letters "o" with cookies for a more festive look. They come off and on again with glue dots so the plate can be washed and used again for next Christmas. Recipe is below and here's a photo of the plate with cookies on it.

This next quick project came about Gaven's love for books. We go to bookstores at least once a week and a while back I started to read him the book "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" and he loved it. A couple of weeks ago I was at a bookstore and found a compilation that not only included that book, but If you Give Pig a Pancake, If You Give a Moose a Muffin and so on. The cool thing is that it came with a mouse plush and so I put it together and this is what it looks like.
I put both items in a shrink wrap bag and shrinked wrapped it...yes, I own a shrink wrap heat gun. It really is worth the money to put gift baskets or gifts such as these together...okay I digress. So anyway, I made Gaven a bookmark using Gina K. Designs set
Little Tees and
Have a Cookie sets designed by Melanie.
I used a Basic Black Stampin' Writer Marker to outlined the solid t-shirt from the set, stamped "need a cookie" sentiment with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and colored it in with Copic Markers. I attached the t-shirt to a tag. The tag I made out of a piece of brown card stock and used the Ticket Corner punch on the top corners. I added some ribbon and attached to the bag with glue dots.
To finish it off, I added a strip of Twill Tape Ribbon. I stamped "You're One Smart Cookie" with StazOn ink. Recipe is below.

Oh both items are just so sweet I love them both. The first book in the series was one of my dd's favorite books. She is 17 years old now and still remembers me reading it to her. Maybe I need to pick up this compilation book so she can see all the added animals in the series.
I think Gaven will adore this gift he is lucky to have you. There is another really fun book for children called Piggy Pie I by Margie Palatini. I bought it for my dd when she was about 4 and she memorized it and then freaked out my Mom who thought she was actually reading the book..lol.
Have a great day and TFS.
