Happy Altered Item Thursday! Hope you're all having a great week so far. Excited tomorrow is Friday - woo hoo! So before I share my project with you today, I wanted to announce the winner of my first blog candy for this month!
My sweet and able assistant picked a name this morning and I have no photo of him to share because he was NOT in the picture taking mood...well really who could blame him, he had 3 hours of pre-school to get through - LOL! I appreciate all of you stopping by my blog and for helping Heather over at H&M Stamps clean out a good chunk of her inventory. We've started to see some sneak peeks of the new sets and boy oh boy, you will NOT be disappointed! The name Gaven picked was, Shannon Bracken! Shannon please email me, craftycaro_04@yahoo.com, your address so I can get the gift card sent over to you!
For my altered item Thursday I have something fun and quite easy to put together. This is actually part 1 of 2 so check back tomorrow for the second part of this project. When I sat down to make it I thought that it would be great to make an alternative gift for Valentine's that doesn't include chocolate or candy...I know it's almost sinful, but must be done cause that's where my creativity is at right now. Here is the front of my Paper Clips Matchbook.
I started off with a 4-1/4" x 8-1/4" piece of Basic Gray card stock - which means you can get two of these matchbooks out of 1 sheet of paper. Scored that piece at 3/4", 4-1/2", and 5". Then I folded the card stock over at the 3/4" score line and stapled it at the bottom, this becomes the lip where the flap will tuck into. I then cut a 4-1/8" x 7-3/4" piece of Candy Lane Designer Series Paper and adhered it to the flap and outside of the matchbook.
The flower looking element in the middle is actually 6 hearts I punched out using the Heart to Heart punch.
The easiest way I found to this is as follow:
- Punch out a 1/2" circle and add pop-up glue dot.
- Then adhere each of the punched out hearts to the circle with the Pop-Up glue dot.
- For the middle I used a Build-a-Brad which works out great to cover the middle of the circle where all the hearts meet.
- I punched out a 1/2" circle out of the polka-dot pink sheet from the Candy Lane Designer Series Paper and get this, the small heart from the punch fits in the middle of the build-a-brad. I must play with this a bit more and see what I can me with them.
- I adhered it on top of the ribbon with another Pop-Up Glue Dot.
To hide the staple, I punched out the large heart from the Heart to Heart punch using Real Red, Very Vanilla Here's a side view.
And now to the inside of the matchbook, the paper clips.
To hold the paper clips in place I cut a piece of 3-7/8" x 3" Very Vanilla card stock. Using an exacto knife and a ruler I made four 5/8"slits and this is where I tucked the paper clips in. I doodled around the edge of the card stock and added the paper clips to it.
To make the paper clips I used the Heart to Heart Punch; The Boho Blossoms Punch; Flower Fusions (Felt Flowers) and the Pretties Kit for the rhinestone, and rhinestone brad. For the pieces without any felt flowers I added some Chrystal Effects to make them last a bit longer since they'll be handled so much.
